Metro Mayor candidate backs Bristol MP’s ‘social tariff’ for broadband

Dan Norris is backing a campaign to require low-cost broadband for families on low incomes.

Bristol North West Labour MP Darren Jones, is calling on the Government to use existing powers to provide a ‘social tariff’ for broadband for families with children eligible for free school meals.

These proposals would mean that the over 21000 children eligible for free school meals across the West of England could benefit from low-cost broadband costing between £10 and £15 per month.

Commenting Dan Norris said:

“This pandemic has highlighted the digital divide, with many children currently forced to learn from home without access to the internet. The Government has the power to act now and it should get on with it.”
