Don’t Cut Care Worker Pay

Local care workers could be left hundreds of pounds out of pocket warned Dan Norris as the government consider post- Brexit changes to holiday pay and safe working hours.

Under the current rules, workers are entitled to a week’s pay for each week of statutory leave that they take, and employers have to include regular overtime in how a week’s pay is calculated.

Scrapping these rules would mean the pay workers are entitled to while on holiday would be lower – calculated from a base hourly rate, without overtime.

This would mean the average full time care worker losing out on £239.60 a year

Dan Norris said: “This crisis has shown us how vital our key workers are. That’s why it’s bitterly disappointing to find out that rather than backing them, the Government  has confirmed they have been considering ripping up key employment rights. Scrapping these rights would see people – including many key workers – worse off, losing out on holiday pay and working longer hours.”
