West of England Metro Mayor fails on post-Brexit funds

Not a single village, town or city in the West of England Metro Mayor area features on a new list of priority areas set to receive cash for skills and training.

Every other Metro Mayor in the country, except in the West of England, has made it onto a special list announced in the Budget for funding from a £220 million pot which will in turn enable them to access cash from the £1.5 billion a year Shared Prosperity fund which replaces European money which used to be allocated to regions.

Labour’s Dan Norris said: “The Conservative Metro Mayor is not delivering for the West of England and not ensuring we receive our fair share of funding. His failure on the Community Renewal Fund is particularly abysmal, every other Metro Mayor in the country featured on the priority list for funding apart from ours. It’s time for new leadership.”
