Mayor makes bee-line to Bristol farm

West of England Metro Mayor Dan Norris sampled the first jar of honey to be produced by Bristol’s last working farm.

The Metro Mayor, who has pledged to make the West of England the bee and pollinator capital of the UK, went to Yew Tree Farm, Bedminster Down, to meet farmer Catherine Withers. Her family have farmed the land there for more than half a century. Mr Norris learned about the farm’s four beehives, which face an ancient hay meadow supporting over 80 species of flowers and plants.

Dan Norris said: “Bristol’s last working farm has just begun producing its own delicious honey, so naturally I made a beeline there to sample it. In a week when the impact of climate change again dominated the news, it was good to find out more about Yew Tree Farm’s work to create and sustain a thriving bee population in South Bristol.”

Yew Tree Farm provides a range of organic pork, beef, eggs, fruit and vegetables, and seasonal jams and chutneys.
