A Bristol-based independent coffee business perked up the Metro Mayor this week as he payed them an espresso visit.
Truestart Coffee, based in Bristol and Warmley, have been trading for 5 years and was founded by couple Helena and Simon Hills. As keen triathlon competitors, Truestart was initially founded as a sports drink company. However they have now branched out into barista-grade instant coffee and ‘cold brew’ coffee in cans – including their most new Salted Caramel flavour. Unlike big brands, Truestart’s cold brew doesn’t contain any added sugar or calories; the only product of its type in the world!
What sets Truestart apart is their ethical approach to sourcing coffee and running the business – and the controlled level of caffeine in their products. They are designed to perk people up and feel great without the crash afterwards.
Metro Mayor Dan Norris said: “Independent businesses have had a difficult time during the pandemic. Truestart have had to adapt when their café was forced to shut because of Covid – and they bounced back full of beans by selling their amazing drinks online.
“I’ve said many times I want businesses of all sizes across the West of England to thrive – it was great to hear from Helena and Simon about their business journey. There’s so many quality products around us it really does pay to eat, drink and shop local.”
