Choosing the next Labour candidate for the West of England Metro Mayor.

ROOTED | RADICAL | READY

Dan Norris is deeply rooted in our local area; he has grown up, worked and lived here his whole life

From a poor coal-mining family, Dan received free school meals, but had an emotionally rich upbringing. Attending state schools across South Gloucestershire and Bristol, Dan was a fellow pupil of J. K. Rowling at primary school.

Dan’s been a scaffolder’s assistant, factory worker and teacher. He trained with the NSPCC to become a child protection officer right across our West of England area. Dan says it’s the toughest job he has ever had!

Dan’s home is in Pensford. He has lived in St Paul’s, Hartcliffe, Knowle, Whitchurch, Winterbourne, Coalpit Heath and Bath.

Dan supports Bristol City whose ups and downs have been the perfect training for politics! His deep local roots mean he knows the West of England is a unique and wholly special place. Dan is very proud and hugely ambitious for our area.

Austerity, Brexit and the Covid recession are making life tougher so we need a radical Metro Mayor. Dan wants to build a thriving West of England where everyone can fulfil their full potential.

Just as he did as a Bristol councillor, as a Somerset and Gloucestershire MP, and as an Environment Minister, Dan will bring new ideas to create good jobs, improve skills, build affordable homes, tackle homelessness, reduce animal cruelty in food production and tackle the climate crisis.

But to do all this we need to win – and it will be really tough. We need a seasoned campaigner. Dan is campaign ready, with an unrivalled record of winning for Labour – not just in Bristol but in the areas beyond where we have to win again to have a Labour Metro Mayor.

Rooted. Choose a candidate who has always lived here and cares deeply about our area.

Radical. From animal welfare to tackling the climate emergency, Dan has radical policies rooted in his Labour values.

Ready. Choose a candidate who has the campaign and elected experience to win and get straight down to work.

My plan for the West of England

It is essential that we have a radical Metro Mayor who:

  • brings new ideas to create good jobs, affordable homes and tackles homelessness
  • addresses vital employment issues like the gender and disability pay gaps and inadequate access to skills training
  • genuinely improves local transport
  • meets the challenges of dementia in a rapidly ageing population and addresses the scourge of loneliness in a modern society
  • ensures in these troubled times that everyone gets all the support they’re rightly entitled to
  • stops animal cruelty in food production and takes environmental concerns seriously
  • builds a thriving West of England where everyone can achieve their potential, and gives our area global recognition

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The hardest working councillor our area ever had. Dan’s a brilliant and skilled campaigner taking Bristol wards off both the Tories and the Lib Dems. We need him again.

“I’m backing Dan. He’s the candidate with the experience to win. His impressive track record shows he beats the Tories everywhere – countryside, town and city.”

“Dan’s plain-speaking, persuasive, genuine and he makes politics matter to a cynical public. To get a Metro Mayor, Labour has to get back to winning ways outside of Bristol. Dan will do this.”
